Description:
Annuals, 4-25 cm tall; stems ascending to prostrate, glabrous. Leaves ovate, 6-18 mm long, sessile to more or less clasping. Pedicels 10-25 mm long, filiform, often recurved in fruit. Calyx lobes narrowly lanceolate, 2-5 mm long, margins scarious; corolla rotate, 8-12 mm wide, salmon-orange. Fruit globose, 3-5 mm long, glabrous. Flowers Apr-Sep.


Distribution on Santa Cruz Island:
All California Channel islands except San Clemente; Guadalupe Island; throughout North America; native of Europe.

 

Santa Cruz Island

Occasional; disturbed sites, moist streambanks, grassy hillsides; grasslands, riparian communities; 10-1000 ft (3-305 m). Widely scattered locations throughout western and central portions of island.  Reported by Hoffmann (1932b).
