Southern California Steelhead

Southern California steelhead are a species of freshwater fish that are native to the rivers in Southern California. They are an endangered species, and they have been protected by the United States government since 1994. The government has taken many steps to try and keep this species from going extinct. The Southern California steelhead is a subspecies that can be found in coastal streams from Santa Barbara County south to San Diego County. It is typically larger than other steelhead subspecies and has a tendency towards dark colors on its back and sides with light-colored bellies. Channel Islands Restoration works to restore the steelheads habitats through invasive species removal up and down Southern California.
